Relations among alkaloids, cadmium and zinc contents in opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.)
The effort of this work was to prove whether there exists any relation between stress factors caused by content of cadmium and zinc, and content and composition of opium alkaloids codeine, morphine, narcotine (noscapine) and papaverine contained in poppy seeds and capsules (Papaver somniferum L.) in 14 samples of 8 varieties cultivated in 8 localities in 2003.

The alkaloid content in industrial opium poppies (Papaver somniferum L.) has been studied by numerous authors, but not in ornamental cultivars. The aim of the study was to investigate the content of morphine, codeine, and papaverine in P. somniferum cultivars by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE). The studied poppy capsules were either grown from the...
متن کاملeffect of a biotic elicitor and nano elicitor on some alkaloids production in papaver somniferum l.
to develop an optimal bioprocess for benzophenanthridin alkaloids production, various metabolite engineering are studied to increase yields, in which one of them is elicitation. elicitors are biotic or abiotic molecules that have effectively stimulated the production of plant secondary metabolites in cell and organ cultures. since this plant serves as the only commercial source of morphine and ...
متن کاملThe roles of latex and the vascular bundle in morphine biosynthesis in the opium poppy, Papaver somniferum.
The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, is one of mankind's oldest medicinal plants. Opium poppy today is the commercial source of the narcotic analgesics morphine and codeine. Along with these two morphinans, opium poppy produces approximately eighty alkaloids belonging to various tetrahydrobenzylisoquinoline-derived classes. It has been known for over a century that morphinan alkaloids accumulat...
متن کاملStudying Morphine Biosynthesis Using Transgenic Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum L.)
Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) produces a large variety of isoquinoline alkaloids. The aim of this investigation is to understand the regulation of biosynthesis and the ecological function of the alkaloids in the plant. Agrobacterium-mediated transformations of opium poppy were used to introduce the berberine bridge enzyme cDNA bbe 1 in the antisense orientation into seedling explants. Aft...
